The Southern Illinois Center for Independent Living is a cross-disability, community-based, non-profit, non-residential facility offering a variety of services to persons with disabilities and their families to help them remain independent in their own homes and participate in their communities. SICIL offers services in 13 southern Illinois counties through 4 centers located in Carbondale, Harrisburg, Metropolis, and Cairo.

The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for the overall administration, management, coordination, and operation of all SICIL activities. The ED supervises approximately 25 employees in 4 centers, is responsible for an annual budget of approximately $1.7 million, oversees all of SICIL’s programs to help persons with disabilities, and manages SICIL’s relationships with funding sources. The ED reports to the SICIL Board of Directors and performs such other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.

Position Parameters
Reports directly to the Board of Directors; full time; full benefits; travel and expenses reimbursed; salaried exempt. The position is not remote.
Qualifications
Minimal qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent disability rights/independent living experience
- At least three years administrative/managerial experience
- Personal experience with disability and a strong commitment to the independent living philosophy and advocacy for the rights of persons with disabilities.
- Strong communication skills, a demonstrated history of leadership, and knowledge of not-for-profit guidelines.
Preferred qualifications:
- Graduate degree in human services, rehabilitation, or related area
- Successful grant-writing experience.
- The ability to travel.
